CORRECTION - JUNIOR KAPA HAKA PERFORMANCE FRIDAY, 1 July 2016

It has been decided that the Junior Kapa Haka will perform at the final assembly this term on Friday, 1 July at 1:45pm.

The boys will need to wear BLACK underwear with no other colours(preferably snug boxer type).

The girls need to wear black hair ties if required.  No jewellery or nail polish.

If your child has a pounamu, please ensure they have it for the performance on Friday.

If you are able to pop in at 12:30pm to assist with the preparation please email Karen Neill.

We have two competitions coming up:

Queenstown Winter 10s Kapa Haka Competition on Saturday, 27 August 2016

Ngā Putangitangi Kapa Haka Competition in Invercargill on Friday, 28 October 2016

To ensure we give our tamariki receive the best possible opportunity to learn all the waiata and actions for their bracket that has been written purposely for our school, we would like to hold two overnight stays next term in the school hall.  We have proposed the following dates and times for the overnight stays:

Term 3, Week 2:     Friday, 5 August      4:30pm - 12.00pm Saturday, 6 July 

Term 3, Week 3:    Friday, 12 August      4:30pm - 12.00pm Saturday, 13August

We will require the assistance of a few parents to stay overnight and to assist with food prep and eating times in the school hall. Please email Karen Neill if you are available:

What will the students need to bring with them?

A plate to contribute to their Friday night meal(if your child has a food allergy, they can bring their own food)
Breakfast will be weetbix/fruit/toast with a couple of topping options
Sleeping bag / Floor roll(if necessary)
Pillow
Change of clothes
Toothbrush/toothpaste

Junior Kapa Haka Performance at Winter Festival 3/7/2016

Unfortunately our junior group will not be performing at the Winter Festival.  They are not quite ready for a performance as yet but stay posted and we will let you know when and where they will be performing so you can attend.

MATARIKI FESTIVAL - 17 JUNE 2016 Memorial Hall QTN

This is the plan for Friday.

3:30pm Students arrive to dress and have their tamoko applied.(PLEASE ensure they are here at
             that time as we need to get them sorted asap with full moko this time)

4:45pm Depart from Performing Arts room to meet at the front of the Memorial Hall at 5:10 at the  latest. (If we are ready earlier, we'll leave earlier)

The kids are due on the stage 5:25pm and will do four items.

Once they come off we will collect the costumes and they will be free to either watch or go home.  We will sort the rides as we did last week.

Seating has been allocated for us to stay until 6 for the rest of the event.

HERE WE ARE AT THE MEDICINE BUDDHA SAND MANDALA MIHI WHAKATAU 9/6/2016

Queenstown MATARIKI FESTIVAL - Friday, 17 June 2016

Kia ora whānau,

Here is our next commitment for the community.  This will be the last performance for our senior group until the Queenstown 10s Kapa Haka Competition at Memorial hall on Saturday, 27 August 2016.  I have attached the flyer and the time sheet so you know exactly what we are up to.  

This is an important festival in the Māori culture as it is the celebration of the Māori New Year! 

Queenstown, Remarkables and Arrowtown Kapa Haka roopu are all performing so it is a good chance for the schools to see where each other are at before the competition.

MEDICINE BUDDHA SAND MANDALA MIHI WHAKATAU 9/6/2016

Kia ora whānau,

Our Performing Group has been invited to open up the Medicine Buddha Mandela on Thursday, 9/6 at 6pm with a mihi whakatau.  It would be a great experience for our kids to witness and be a part of.  Please let Whaea Karena know if your child would be available to attend this amazing experience.

We are meeting in the Performing Arts/Te Reo Māori room at 4:30pm to get everyone dressed to hopefully leave by 5:15pm from school.  Please be PUNCTUAL!

The girls are wearing their wrap-around costume and the boys will require their black undies with piupiu. We will be sorting their costumes on Thursday 8/6 during their Kapa Haka rehearsal.

 I realise this is going to be cold for them so please ensure they have a tracksuit or similar for them to wear into and from Queenstown.

We need to have the kids at the Queenstown Art Centre(49 Stanley St) by 5:50pm.  The ceremony is estimated to go until 7:00pm but if you would like your child to leave straight after the performance there is no problem at all with that.

The ceremony is certainly going to be a special experience for our children.
