Kia haere ana ki waho e - Let them go out a long way (...to come and participate)
Toia mai, toia mai, kumea mai - Haul them in, haul them in, pull them in
A taua mahi e - To take part in what we are doing here.

Ka huri au hi, ka titiro - I turn and look
Ka huru au hi, ka whakarongo - I turn and listen
Ka huru au hi, ka tahuri - I turn, turn around
Ki te awhi mai - to take part...

I aku aha, i aku mahi, - ...in what are mine, in my customs,
o aku tipuna e - handed down from my ancestors,
Ka haka tena, ka poi tena - this haka, this poi
He mahi a ringaringa a e - and hand work. (action songs)
Te hiki taku mere, - I raise my greenstone blade,
i taku taiaha - and my fighting staff.
Te mana taku ihi e, - The spiritual power is my energizing force.
Pupuritia! - Hold onto these things!

Takahia, takahia - Stamp your feet, stamp your feet
Kia whakarono ai nga iwi.- so that everyone can hear you.
Pupuritia, pupuritia, pupuritia - Hold, hold fast, hold on
A taua mahi e.- to these customs.
